The South Carolina Arts Commission is looking for talented individuals to lead its arts industry focus area and serve on the grants team.

Arts Industry Director

  • APPLICATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 11:59 p.m. ET
  • COMPENSATION INFORMATION: $55,000-$58,000 annually / FT / State benefits

For this position, the SCAC is seeking a passionate leader who will manage a diverse grant portfolio and collaborate closely with arts leaders to foster a vibrant cultural landscape. This position will support the growth of the arts sector throughout South Carolina and advance the transformative power of the arts in our communities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in arts administration, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to advancing the arts.

This position does not have to be based in Columbia. The SCAC expanded to include offices in Richland, Charleston, Florence, and Greenville counties, and the successful candidate for this position can reside near and work from any one of these locations.

Select duties/responsibilities

  • Develops and administers short and long-term planning goals and guidelines for SCAC assigned grant categories in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Develops and administers short and long-term planning goals and annual work-plan for SCAC assigned programs and projects in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Develops and administers budget for SCAC assigned programs, projects, and grants in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Facilitates group processes, including grant panels, webinars, & other learning, and community-building experiences, both in person and online.
  • Represents SCAC at local, statewide, and national cultural activities, meetings, and conferences, as well as on boards and committees.
  • Supervises up to two employees, providing guidance, support, ongoing assessment, and mentorship.
  • Develops and implements post-project activities in assigned programmatic areas, including evaluations, assessments, and acknowledgements.
  • Assigned grants: arts project support, general operating support, operating support for small organizations, folk and traditional arts projects for organizations, emerging arts leaders, partnerships, and special projects.

Grants Manager

  • COMPENSATION INFORMATION: $49,000-$52,000 annually / FT / State benefits

Details, details, details! The SCAC seeks an experienced and detail-oriented grants manager to manage the department responsible for a multi-million dollar grant allocation program. This position will supervise a staff of two, develop and implement effective policies and procedures, and lead customer service initiatives. The successful candidate will have a strong background in managing systems and can streamline operations and the grant application process for grantees.

Select duties/responsibilities

  • Supervise two grants coordinators, providing guidance, support, ongoing assessment, and mentorship.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to grants allocations.
  • Works with the deputy director to develop and administer grants budget in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
  • Contribute to agency-wide strategic planning initiatives, providing insights and recommendations related to grant funding.
  • Oversee the agency granting calendar and timeline to ensure timely processing and distribution of funds.
  • Stay well-informed of current and emerging federal/state/local policy priorities; maintain understanding of federal/state grant/contract regulations and procedures.
  • Represent agency leadership in interactions with constituents, serving as an authority on grant-related matters.
  • Develop and implement agency-wide training programs on policies, procedures, and best practices in customer service.
  • Proactively address and resolve any concerns or challenges faced by constituents, ensuring a positive and efficient grant application experience.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for enhancing the overall constituent experience and streamlining processes.
